Well…it’s not everyday that you see your daughter’s skull. Mandy called me at work today and said, “I think we need to go to the hospital (just as the split second pause I was getting excited about our son being born), but not for me, for Isabelle.”! Not what I had expected or wanted, so I quickly got the details and let a couple of people know where I was going on the way out of the office.
It was the classic kids playing on a bunk bed accident. Unfortunately before Isabelle landed on the carpeted floor, the dresser broke her fall on her head. So off to the ER and 6 stitches later we are now home and have all the kids tucked in their beds to sleep. When I first got to the house to check out the wound I thought to myself, “I think I see her skull” I kept that information to myself until I asked the doctor during suturing what it was, and he confirmed my suspicion.
We are thankful for:
the deep gash being on the back of her head in her hair, so hidden scaring.
After the initial crying she did not cry the whole rest of the night, even when we had to constrict her for the numbing shot and suturing!
Mandy was just nearby to help Isabelle right away
good ER that didn’t take forever to get treated
Tonight we will be waking Isabelle up every 2 hours to ensure no further signs of head trauma.
We continue with “baby watch” as well, hoping that our “little man” comes soon!

Yikes! I hope the night went well and she is doing better.
The poor girl! I’m glad that it wasn’t more serious.
