Well…it’s not everyday that you see your daughter’s skull. Mandy called me at work today and said, “I think we need to go to the hospital (just as the split second pause I was getting excited about our son being born), but not for me, for Isabelle.”! Not what I had expected or wanted, so I quickly got the details and let a couple of people know where I was going on the way out of the office.
It was the classic kids playing on a bunk bed accident. Unfortunately before Isabelle landed on the carpeted floor, the dresser broke her fall on her head. So off to the ER and 6 stitches later we are now home and have all the kids tucked in their beds to sleep. When I first got to the house to check out the wound I thought to myself, “I think I see her skull” I kept that information to myself until I asked the doctor during suturing what it was, and he confirmed my suspicion.
We are thankful for:
the deep gash being on the back of her head in her hair, so hidden scaring.
After the initial crying she did not cry the whole rest of the night, even when we had to constrict her for the numbing shot and suturing!
Mandy was just nearby to help Isabelle right away
good ER that didn’t take forever to get treated
Tonight we will be waking Isabelle up every 2 hours to ensure no further signs of head trauma.
We continue with “baby watch” as well, hoping that our “little man” comes soon!

Well as Brian’s brother would say we are at the “FINAL COUNT DOWN!” When he was in the last days of his wifes pregnancy he posted on his blog the song the “Final Count Down”, which I thought was insightful
So what are we doing with the final days…. making a list and checking it over and over! I have this list of things to get done before our son arrives, I must say it is a long list! So I gave it the title “Dream List” because I knew there would be no way to get it all done. There are random things on it like clean hall closet both the upstairs one and the downstairs. When a baby is on the way you just want to get a few things done that never do. Somehow you just know once the baby arrives there is no way any of those random things will ever get done in a timely manner. I can remember our friend Jay Horne cleaning out from behind his refrigerator the night before his wife was to be induced!! He had the fridge pulled out and was cleaning the wall and floor if I remember correctly. Now that did not make my list, so if you come over don’t look behind my fridge, go to Jay’s. He and his family live in Texas and we have actually dropped in on them with no notice (after not seeing them for a year or two) and were served a great lunch!!
Yesterday we thought we were going to be headed to the hospital as contractions had started but then they ended and the day ended as well with no little boy to speak of. But we know he is getting ready and we are too. His due date is 11 days away, so not too much longer. I better go get to that list, today it’s hanging a ceiling fan in his room and running errands to a bunch of stores.
We will be posting the news of his arrival with photos and all so you might want to check back every now and then in the next two weeks
And of course his name shall then be revealed….what could it be??????
